LOS ANGELES â€" The Loyola Marymount softball team (11-14-2) faced the No. 16 nationally ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (16-2) in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field. Ohio State earned a 2-1 victory in extra innings in Game 1 and later secured a 7-0 shutout win in Game 2.

In Game 1 of the day, the Buckeyes got on the board first in the top of the fifth on a RBI triple by Taylor White, scoring Andi Farrah. LMU tied it up in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double by Molly Grumbo, driving in Brooke Christensen on the play.

Ohio State owned the game in extra innings, as Emily Clark homered to left field to make it 2-1 in the top of the eighth, which would be the final score as the Lions were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.

Hannah Bandimere pitched a complete game for the Lions in Game 1, throwing seven strikeouts in the loss.

Ohio State took over in Game 2, defeating the Lions 7-0. Lilli Piper hit a two-run homer to left center to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 start after the first inning. Ohio State homered once again in the top of the second, as Becca Gavin homered this time, scoring herself and Andi Farrah on the play, giving the Buckeyes a 4-0 lead.

A pair of doubles by Ohio State brought in two more runs in the fourth, and the Buckeyes scored their final run of the game in the fifth to secure the shutout win.

Linnay Wilson pitched four innings for LMU in the loss, racking up six strikeouts.

The Lions return to Smith Field tomorrow for two more games. LMU will first take on Columbia (12 p.m.) and later battle Monmouth (2:30 p.m.) to round out the day.
