FULLERTON, Calif. â€" Loyola Marymount softball (1-2) competed in Day 2 of the Cal State Fullerton Titan Classic on Saturday, losing to Utah State (2-2) 5-2. The Lions split in the opening day of the tournament yesterday, losing to Pittsburgh and later defeating UC Riverside.
The Aggies got off to a strong start today, scoring three runs in the opening inning to go up 3-0. Irma Sanchez scored in the third inning to get the Lions on the board after an error by Utah State's shortstop. Utah State tallied its final runs of the day in the fourth inning as Joely Williamson homered, securing 2 RBIs on the play.
Lindsey Matoi scored again for the Lions in the fifth inning as Shianne Ybarra singled to right field, earning the RBI, but this would be the final run for LMU on the day as Utah State went on to win 5-2. Linnay Wilson pitched four innings for LMU in the loss, racking up six strikeouts. Caitlyn Rivera and Maddie Rawl finished out the game on the mound for the Lions.
The Lions face Pittsburgh again (10 a.m.) and Cal State Fullerton (12:30 p.m.) tomorrow to finish out their play in the Titan Classic.
