LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team broke the program record with eight consecutive wins to open a season. With the Lions (8-1) suffering their first loss of the season on Sunday night, the opportunity to begin a new win streak starts Wednesday night at Cal State Fullerton (3-5), at 7 p.m.
The Lions and Titans have played each other three times since 2015, with LMU winning two of those games. CSUF did pull out the eight-point win last December, despite
James Batemon going off for 29 points and seven assists. The Lions have a chance to even the all-time series this week with a win.
Batemon continues to lead the West Coast Conference in minutes played thisseason surpassing the 300 minute mark Sunday night at UCLA. The senior point guard is averaging just under 34 minutes per game.
Cal State Fullerton's identity appears to be on the offensive side of the ball, which will go head-to-head against LMU's defensive prowess. THe Titons lead the Big West in scoring at 81.3 points per game. CSUF's 127 assists also leads their conference.
The Lions rank 14th in the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score under 60 points per game this season.
The trip down to Fullerton is the middle game of LMU's three-game road swing, with the Lions ending at Portland State on Dec. 15.
The game will be streamed live on BIGWEST.tv from Titan Gym.
