LMU Outlasts Saint Mary’s on Road

LMU won a five-set match at Saint Mary’s on Saturday.

Finishing the regular-season road schedule on Saturday afternoon, LMU volleyball (18-7, 8-6 WCC) outlasted Saint Mary's (16-7, 8-5 WCC) by scores of 28-26, 15-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-12 in five sets from McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif.

BOX SCORE NOTES
Senior Sara Kovac led all players with 23 kills on 53 swings for a .302 hitting percentage … junior Savannah Slattery was right behind Kovac, notching 20 while hitting .300 as LMU combined for a .250 hitting percentage … Kovac managed a double-double, teaming her 23 kills with 11 digs … the double-double was the second for Kovac in as many matches against the Gaels … junior Tess Reid also posted a double-double, matching 59 assists with 16 digs … although LMU was outblocked, 11-7, Slattery recorded a solo and three block assists … the Lions served up eight aces, but also committed 19 service errors … freshman Ella Boehle managed three of the eight aces … Meredith Teague joined Kovac and Slattery with double-digit kills – compiling 13 … four Gael players posted double-digit kills, including Sarah Chase with a team-best 14 … the two teams played to 50 tie scores and 23 lead changes over the five sets … no set featured fewer than three lead changes.

LION NOTES
LMU is now 4-1 in five-set matches this year, and has won four straight such decisions … LMU has recorded at least two aces in all but one match this year … LMU snapped a four-match road losing streak … the Lions swept the season series over Saint Mary's … the Lions are now 9-2 in Saturday matches this year … LMU is also 12-3 in day games played before 5 p.m.
