LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team looks to extend their best start as Florida A&M visits the Bluff for the first time. The Lions (6-0) and Rattlers (2-3) play as the fourth and final game of the Jamaica Classic.
LMU secured the best open to a season in program history with Wednesday night's comeback win over Central Connecticut State University. LMU and Gonzaga sit atop the West Coast Conference standings with 6-0 records, and University of San Francisco also boasts a perfect 5-0 mark to start the season.
The Lions continue to be a top-10 team nationally in free throw percentage and lead the conference at a 80.4 percent mark (8th in Division I). Both
James Batemon and
Mattias Markusson are leading the way, shooting 85.7 percent from the line. Nobody in the WCC has made (42) or attempted (47) more free throws than Batemon, who ranks fifth in makes in the NCAA.
Batemon also leads the WCC in total steals with 14, and ranks fifth nationally in that category. The team's 47 steals lead the conference.
The Rattlers opened the year at 2-0, but have since dropped the three-games against Jamaica Classic opponents.
The game will follow the women's basketball team's 21st-annual Thanksgiving Classic with tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
