Battle of 3-0 Teams Highlight Jamaica Classic Opening Night

Live Stream | Live Stats | Jamaica Classic

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – For the first time since 1979, Loyola Marymount and Georgetown square off on the hardwood. Much like the first matchup, an early season neutral-site tournament is the venue, with the teams meeting at the Nike Cage Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the '79-80 season and the Jamaica Classic this time around.

The head-to-head battle looks different this time around. Both teams boarded their international flights with an identical 3-0 record. Both teams have a true road win under their belts. And both teams are led by a senior scorer.

LMU's James Batemon has led the team in scoring each game this season and is averaging 19.7 points per game. Georgetown's center Jessie Govan has also hit the double-digit scoring mark in three games this season and sits at a 16.3 ppg average on the year.

The Lions have won their first three games of a year by 10 points or more for the first time 1957-58 season. LMU has found ways to win despite being outrebounded in one game, committing more turnovers in a game, and trailing on the road at UNLV with only 18 points at the half.

A key reason the team has been able to pull out games has been the defense. LMU's active hands have led to 10 or more steals in each game thus far, and opponents are averaging just 52.3 points per game, 16th-fewest in Division 1.

The game will air on CBS Sportsnet, tipping at 7 p.m. local time and 4 p.m PST.
