Pepperdine Sweeps LMU, Captures PCH Cup Point

The Lions had a four-match win streak snapped on Saturday.

Playing on the road at PCH Cup and West Coast Conference rival Pepperdine, LMU volleyball (15-4, 5-3 WCC) suffered a 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 sweep at the hands of the Waves (13-5, 7-1 WCC) on Saturday afternoon from Firestone Fieldhouse.

PCH CUP
With the win, Pepperdine captured a point in the PCH Cup standings … separated by 19.1 miles of scenic coastline, longtime cross-town adversaries LMU and Pepperdine came together in an effort to boost their decades-long rivalry with the creation of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) Cup ... the series, which is in its 10th year, serves as an annual scorecard for the NCAA-sponsored athletic contests between the Lions and Waves, and challenges each institution to rise above the other within the West Coast Conference ... any head-to-head competition, including matches in the post-season and tournaments throughout the year, will be counted toward the scoring and added to the scorecard as they occur ... for the sports in which the two teams do not meet head-to-head, the teams will battle for points that will be awarded on the basis of overall finish at their respective post-season championships ... LMU won the 2016-17 PCH Cup, 12-9.5.

BOX SCORE NOTES
Hannah Frohling led all players with 14 kills as she hit .357 over 28 swings … Rachel Ahrens pitched in 13 kills while hitting .346 … Pepperdine hit .371 as a team while holding LMU to a .088 clip … Blossom Sato dished out 37 assists … both teams served up four aces, including two from Bo Culo … Savannah Slattery posted nine kills, but no Lion player managed double-digit kills in the loss … Pepperdine also managed to double-up LMU in blocks, registering 12 behind six block assists from Alli O'Harra.

LION NOTES
LMU failed to record a player with double-digit kills for the first time this year … the .088 hitting percentage is the lowest of the year, and marks just the second time LMU has been held under .200 this year … it's also the first time LMU has been held under .100 this season.

QUOTABLE
"Pepperdine played better than us in every category. It felt like we were chasing them the whole time. Our serving and passing has been really steady for us all year and we didn't do either of those things particularly well today." – Head coach Aaron Mansfield.

NEXT ROTATION
LMU will have another tough week in WCC play next week, traveling to #1 BYU and San Diego on Thursday and Saturday ... both matches can be watched on TheW.tv with live stats found at LMULions.com.
