Men’s Soccer Continues WCC Play at Portland and Gonzaga

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team (4-7, 1-0 WCC) continues its five-match road streak with two WCC games at Portland and Gonzaga this weekend. The Lions will first take on the Pilots (9-0-2, 1-0 WCC) on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and then face the Bulldogs (2-7-2, 0-1 WCC) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.

LMU started off conference play with a dramatic win at Santa Clara last Sunday, scoring two goals in the games' final two minutes to take down the Broncos 2-1 on the road. The Lions have won two straight games and three out of the last four, also defeating No. 13 CSUN and New Mexico over the past few weeks.

LMU is 4-7 overall and 1-0 in conference in 2018. Sophomore Kris Fourcand leads the Lions in scoring with three goals, while senior Antonio Porreco has dished out the most assists with four. LMU goalkeeper Paul Lewis has a record of 4-6 in 10 games played this season with a .700 save percentage and GAA of 1.80.

The unbeaten Pilots are atop the WCC standings (along with Saint Mary's) and are currently ranked No. 7 nationally with an overall record of 9-0-2 and 1-0 in conference action. Portland is just one of three teams in the country yet to suffer a loss in 2018. Benji Michel leads the conference in several categories this season, including goals (10), game-winning goals (6), points (22) and points per game (2.0). His six game-winning goals rank him second in the nation while he also ranks eighth in total goals and 10th in points, nationally.

The Bulldogs have lost two straight, falling to Portland and UC Santa Barbara in their most recent matches. They have an overall record of 2-7-2 and are 0-1 in WCC play. Their two wins this season have come at SMU and Oral Roberts. Demitrius Kigeya leads Gonzaga in scoring on the year with four goals, and Quinn Liebmann is the team's assist leader with two this season.

Following LMU's two weekend matches, the team returns to Los Angeles to play their last non-conference game at UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 20. The Lions return to Sullivan Field on Friday, Oct. 26 when they take on Pacific at 7 p.m.
