Los Angeles, Calif. - LMU, who are now 14-23 on the season and 0-1 in WCC play, opened conference today facing BYU. The Lions never hit their stride dropping the game 8-0 in 6 innings. BYU, led by the reigning pitcher of the year, kept LMU's offense quiet, the Lions only had three hits in the game.
Irma Sanchez continues to dominate in the lead off roll, she is hitting .528 when a lead off situation. Sanchez led the team with 2 hits against the cougars, the first coming in the first at bat of the game when she sent a shot into shallow left. Sanchez picked up her second hit in the fourth on a groundball up the middle. The final Lions hit came from Katie Manley in the top of the 6th when she came in to pinch hit. Manley sent her hit up the middle to give LMU the final baserunner of the game.
LMU is back at the ball field tomorrow for Pink Day, LMU will Play4TheCure by wearing pink uniforms in support of breast cancer. Senior Pitcher Andy Wellins mom, Carmen Wellins, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The game will feature many pink day themed festivities, the first 100 fans will get a free pink day t-shirt, the Hungry Lion Food Truck will be serving all game long and there will be a silent auction and pink goodie bags raffled off.
The double header versus the Cougars will begin at noon tomorrow.
