Lions Drop Two At Pacific

April 22, 2017

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - LMU (16-28) headed up to Stockton for a three game WCC series against Pacific. The Lions put up nine hits in game one but fell 6-5, and six hits in game two, but after extra innings Pacific took the 3-1 decision.

LMU scored first in game one. Irma Sanchez led off with a base hit, followed by a sneaky bunt base hit from Caitlin Harman. Both Lions would come around and score giving LMU the early 2-0 lead. Pacific responded with a strong first inning of their own, the Tigers scored four, taking over the lead.

The Lions had a huge come back in the 7th but fell just short of the Tigers. Headed into the 7th LMU was down 6-2. Sabrina Tebou led off the inning with a double to right center, pinch hitter Aria Pogni smashed a two-run home run to left cutting Pacific's lead 6-4. Harman followed with the third hit of the inning, advancing to second on an error that put Lions on first and second. Harman proved to be the final runner that would cross home after Brown scored her on the singled to right field. Game one ended with a 6-5 final score in favor of Pacific.

Brown finished the game 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Harman finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and senior Amanda Dirks hit 2-for-4 with a leadoff single in the third and a leadoff double in the fifth.

In the night cap the Lions had six hits but could only push across one run in 8 innings. Just like game one, the Lions took the lead first. Harman walked, stole second, then advanced to third on a fielder's choice which allowed her to take advantage of a Pacific error and scored the Lions first and only run.

Several Lions had key hits in the game but LMU couldn't string something together. Harman got the Lions their first hit of the game in the third with her single to center, Brown singled to center in the fourth, and Lindsey Matoi singled to center as well in the fifth. In the 7th, Sabrina Tebou tried to add to the Lions 1-0 lead by blasting her second double of the day, but Tebou would not score. In the bottom of 7, the Tigers were able to push one across, tying it 1-1 and sending it into the 8th.

LMU strung together two hits in the 8th, one by Dirks and one by Brown but no Lions would score. Pacific was able to get a two-run home run to end the game in the 8th with a final of 3-1.

Brown ended game two hitting 2-for-4. Tebou ended her day hitting a combined 2-for-6 with both hits being doubles. Harman closed out the day hitting 3-for-7 with 3 runs scored.

LMU takes on the Tigers once again tomorrow for the final game of the series starting at 12pm.
