The LMU beach volleyball team (12-12) will open the 2017 West Coast Conference Championship tournament on Friday as the third seed, meeting sixth-seed Santa Clara at 9 a.m. from Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica.

Should the Lions advance past the Broncos, LMU would play the winner of #2 Saint Mary's and #7 San Francisco.

Pepperdine, who won the WCC Championship last year, is seeded first once again in this year's bracket. LMU reached the semifinal round of the inaugural tournament a year ago, eventually falling to Pepperdine and Saint Mary's.

LMU enters the weekend carrying a #16 ranking according to DiG Magazine and is receiving votes in the AVCA poll. Pepperdine is #3 in both polls, while Saint Mary's and Pacific are also receiving votes according to the AVCA poll. The Gaels carry a #15 ranking according to DiG Magazine.
