SAN DIEGO â€" The Lions (2-8-2, 0-1 WCC) were unable to get on the board in the team's first conference matchup of the season, losing to San Diego (6-3-1, 1-0 WCC) 2-0 at Torero Stadium on Sunday. This marked San Diego's third straight shutout victory.
Leon Mueller-Wiesen secured San Diego's first goal on a free kick from the top and center of the penalty box in the 41st minute, landing the shot in the top left corner of the net.
Jimmy Ryan of the Toreros made the score 2-0 in the 74th minute of the match as he volleyed a shot past LMU keeper Collin Partee and into the left corner of the goal from 15 yards off of a cross from teammate Patric Krall.
San Diego outshot Loyola Marymount 17-10 in the match. In goal for the Toreros, Thomas Olsen registered two saves, while Partee finished with seven saves for the Lions.
LMU returns to Sullivan Field for another WCC match against Gonzaga on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m.
