LOS ANGELES â€" In a back-and-forth contest, Loyola Marymount men's water polo earned their second conference win of the season thanks to strong finishes in the first and fourth quarters. The Lions (6-16, 2-3 WWPA) broke an 8-8 tie with two late goals to top Santa Clara (7-12, 1-4 WWPA), 10-8, Saturday at Burns Aquatic Center.

After Santa Clara scored the game's opening goal, Matt Braun responded with his first two of three first quarter goals to give LMU the lead. After the Broncos tied it, Braun scored another and Nicolaus Rimlinger added another before the quarter came to a close, with the Lions ahead, 4-2.

Braun picked up where he left off and scored his fourth goal of the game to open the second quarter, giving LMU a game-high three-goal advantage. Santa Clara chipped away, scoring two more before intermission to make it a 5-4 game at the half.

Santa Clara scored the opening goal of the third period to tie things at five apiece. That score held until Joseph Shaw put the Lions back on top with his goal at the 2:05 mark. An LMU defensive stand to end the quarter set up a one-goal game entering the final period.

A minute into the final quarter, Santa Clara tied the score, before Austin Clark but the Lions back ahead with his power play goal. On LMU's next offensive possession, Zach Gleason pushed the lead to two with his first goal of the day. The back-and-forth play continued as the Broncos scored the next two goals to tie the score at 8-8 with 3:39 to play.

The Lions retook the lead for the final time at the 1:40 mark with a goal by Alessio Brunochelli and added to it a minute later with Austin Clark's insurance goal propelling LMU to the 10-8 victory.

Dominick Beaudine made 12 saves and added three steals to earn the win in goal.

Loyola Marymount's remaining three games are all at home. UC Davis and Concordia come to Burns Aquatic Center for WWPA matches on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4, respectively. The regular season comes to a close on Nov. 8 with a non-conference showdown with Long Beach State.
