SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Loyola Marymount women's soccer came out as a different team on Sunday following Friday's disappointing result. The Lions (6-3-3, 1-1-0 WCC) strung together a pair of goals early in each of the two halves to shutout San Francisco (4-7-2, 0-2-0), 3-0.
The Lions were quick to open the scoring, with Melissa Lewis finding the back of the net in the 7th minute of play. Lewis poked the ball in from the six-yard box to give LMU the early advantage.
The score held through the first half, but as soon as the two teams returned to play after the break, LMU doubled the lead. Shelby Cormier was as close to the goal line as she could be without standing on the chalk when she scored her first of the year just 49 seconds into the second half.
LMU added one more later as Melissa Lewis added to her points total and found Sarina Bolden in the box for Bolden's fourth goal of the year. The 3-0 lead stood, giving the Lions their first West Coast Conference win of the season.
Earning her fourth clean sheet, Charlee Pruitt made seven saves in net.
The Lions will be back at Sullivan Field for a pair of single conference games over the next two weeks. LMU hosts the PCH Cup with Pepperdine coming to the Bluff on Oct. 8 for a 1 p.m. game. The Lions then play Portland under the lights on Oct. 14 for a 7 p.m. WCC matchup.
