LOS ANGELES â€" The LMU women's soccer team extended its win streak at Sullivan Field to 12 as it cruised past Ball State, 4-0, Sunday morning.
After outshooting the Cardinals, 10-1, in the opening half, the Lions broke through for a trio of scores in the second frame to tab its second four-goal output at Sullivan Field in as many games.
Just 16 minutes into action, Maddie Medved sailed a free kick from the left side 35 yards out into the box, where the Ball State keeper initially got her hands on the ball, but it slipped right to the middle of the box and Shelby Cormier finished it off it in to put the Lions on the board.
The Lions dominated possession in the first half as the Cardinals could only master one shot off to carry a1-0 advantage into the break.
LMU continued its furious press on the Cardinals defense and broke through for a trio of scores in the second half.
Sarah Sanger started the onslaught five minutes into the second stanze as she corralled a feed down the left side from Meded and drove down to the end line before delivering a feed to Phoebe Riley while sliding out of bounds. Riley took a touch before finding Pilar Torres, who fired a shot that blew past the outstretched grasp of the Cardinals keeper.
The momentum continued to favor the Lions as an own goal off an attempted clear attempt by a Ball State defender put the score at 3-0.
Jill Farley put the exclamation point on the morning, firing a rocket that ricocheted off the crossbar and in from 25 yards out, extending the Lions command to 4-0.
Sophie Leskan would relieve Charlee Pruitt in net and preserve the win as LMU registered its first shutout of the season.
