Playing in its first match at the 2016 Pioneer Classic, #20 LMU (2-2) dropped a four-set match to host Denver (3-1) by scores of 25-13, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22 on Friday night at Hamilton Gymnasium in Denver Colo.

Sarah Sponcil led all players with 15 kills on 33 swings, but LMU's serve receive proved to be a rough spot, as Denver served up six aces. Denver's talented block also stymied the attack of the Lions, as the Pioneers collected 19 blocks in the victory.

Sponcil finished the match with a double-double, teaming the 15 kills with 10 digs. Tess Reid, who again split time setting with Jessie Prichard, recorded her fourth straight double-double, combining 26 assists and 10 digs.

Ruth Okoye led the way on the block for Denver, collecting two solos and nine block assists. Kayla Principato also had a solid day on the block, registering nine block assists of her own.

Becca Latham led the way on the attack for Denver, registering 10 kills on 20 swings for a .350 hitting percentage.

LMU will continue play at the Pioneer Classic on Saturday, playing neutral matches against Utah State (9 am) and Montana State (3:30 pm).
