LOS ANGELES - Senior Maurice Morton put LMU on the board first with a free kick goal in the 36th minute, but Cal State Bakersfield netted a pair of scores in the second half to top the Lions, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

Morton tabbed his first career score as a Lion, sending a free kick into the top right shelf to give LMU (4-4-0) the upper hand 36 minutes into play.

CSUB (2-5-0) would make the most of its chances in the second half as Hugo Vinales struck with the equalizer 56 minutes into play before Julian Zamora delivered what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 70 minute mark.

LMU came storming out of the gates in a highly-physical contest, scorching three of its 10 first half shots in the opening nine minutes of action en route to notching a season-high 23 shots.

The Lions took advantage of nine CSUB fouls in the first half, pressuring the 'Runners defense with several free kick opportunities within CSUB's defensive third and finally broke through 36 minutes in. With a free kick opportunity 25 yards out, Morton beamed a shot into the upper 90, putting the Lions in command, 1-0, heading into the half.

Looking to snap its five-game losing streak, CSUB ramped up the pressure in the second half. In the 56th minute, Daniel Dreier drove the ball down the wing to the right corner before sending a cross into the box. The ball bounced off an LMU defender and Vinales struck with a one-timer on the rebound to tie it up at 1-1.

Zamora snapped what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 70th minute, dekeing a Lion defender on a 1-on-1 situation and roped a shot into the back of the net to give CSUB the lead.

Despite out shooting the 'Runners, 23-11, including 13 attempts in the second half, the Lions could not push one past the CSUB netminder and fell by a final score of 2-1.

On deck is a three-game road trip for the Lions, starting Sept. 21 at UC Santa Barbara.
