LMU on Twitter Hosting the Duke Blue Devils (4-3) on Saturday afternoon, #25 LMU (6-3) posted a sweep by way of scores of 25-21, 26-24, 25-18 from Gersten Pavilion to finish the weekend with a 2-1 record.
Sarah Sponcil and Savannah Slattery once again led the Lion attack to victory, posting a match-best 12 kills apiece to help LMU to a .343 team hitting percentage. Slattery hit .500 on 24 errorless attacks, while Sponcil posted a .385 hitting percentage over 26 swings.
Tess Reid and Jessie Prichard finished with 20 and 18 assists, respectively, as Reid also served up one of LMU's four aces. Kristen Castellanos had two aces of her own while pacing the squad with 14 digs.
Saturday afternoon's match proved closer than a sweep would suggest, as the two teams battled to 23 tie scores and 11 lead changes over the course of the three sets.
Jessi Bartholomew paced the Duke offense, connecting for 11 kills on 25 attacks for a .280 hitting percentage. Duke managed just a .236 hitting percentage as a team, but Cindy Marina did dish out 33 assists. Sasha Karelov led all players with 15 digs in the setback.
LMU's attack proved solid throughout the three-set victory, posting a .349 hitting percentage in the first, .294 in the second and a .393 clip in the finale.
LMU will return to action Friday when it travels to the University of Dayton for the first of three matches over the weekend. The Lions will open play against the host school at 3 p.m.
