LOS ANGELES - - The 2016 fall sports season at LMU began today with the arrival of women's soccer. The LMU Sports Network caught up with a group of Lions to talk about what they have been doing to prepare to follow-up their 2015 Sweet 16 season.
The Lions enter the season ranked 25th in the nation, according the NSCAA Preseason Poll. Check-out the poll HERE.
The Lions finished the 2015 season 15-6-1 and set quite a few records along the way.
Team Records Achieved
• 15 wins set an all-time program record
• 12 shutouts ranks 2nd in program history
• 103 points (37g, 29a) ranks 2nd in program history
• 37 goals ranks 2nd in program history
• 29 assists ranks 4th in program history
• 5 goals in a single game (achieved twice) ranks tied for 6th in program history
• 7 WCC victories sets an all-time program record
• 2nd place finish in the WCC standings matches the highest finish ever
Individual Career Records Achieved
• Jocelyn Blankenship set LMU career records for minutes played (6898), games played (80) and assists (22). The senior midfielder also departs ranked 2nd in career points (50) and career goals (14).
• Senior forward Morgan Hilby, who played just two season for the Lions, departs ranked 1st in career offensive efficiency with 0.81 points per game. She also ranks tied for 4th in career game-winning goals (6).
Individual Single-Season Records Achieved
• 22 points - Jocelyn Blankenship - ties for 2nd in program history
• 8 assists - Jocelyn Blankenship - ties for 2nd in program history
• 3 GWG - Morgan Hilby & Sarah Sanger - ties for 3rd in program history
• 11 GK wins - Charlee Pruitt - ties for 4th in program history
• 8 goals - Jocelyn Blankenship - ties for 7th in program history
Additional Accomplishments Achieved
• First-ever NCAA Tournament victories achieved in a 1-0 shutout of Cal in the First Round and a 1-0 shutout of Minnesota in the Second Round.
• First-ever win over WCC rival Portland (1-0 shutout on Oct. 23).
• Perfect 10-0 on Sullivan Field, marking the second time LMU has gone undefeated at home (6-0-4 in 1998) and the second time they reached 10 home victories (10-1-0 in 2007).
• Head Coach Michelle Myers earns program's first-ever West Coast Conference Coach of the Year honor.
• Senior Callie Taylor named WCC Co-Defender of the Year.
• Six-game win streak marked the longest win streak for the program since 2007.
• Defeated two ranked opponents (No. 21 Long Beach State, No. 17 Cal) for the second time ever and for the first time since 2001.>
Tickets for the 2016 season go onside August 8th, with season tickets just $40. The Lions open the season with an exhibition at Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 12 and then will open the regular season in Norman, Okla., taking on Tulsa on Aug. 19 and then Oklahoma on Oct. 21. They will open home play on Aug. 28 against CSU Bakersfield at 1 pm.
