Syracuse, N.Y. - Squaring off against Syracuse for the first time in series history, the LMU men's soccer team gave the sixth-ranked Orange all it could handle, but fell just short of an upset bid as it fell, 2-1, in double overtime Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Field.

In the Lions final game of the Central New York Classic, Adrien Perez marked his return to the field after missing most of last season due to injury by delivering the equalizer in the second half. However, Syracuse (2-0-0) would have the final say as it netted the game-winner in sudden death overtime.

The 2015 College Cup semifinalist grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the 21st minute as Johannes Pines scored off a deflection to put the host ahead.

Syracuse's lead would hold until Perez responded 22 minutes into the second frame, scorching the back of the net from 25 feet out to tie it up at 1-1.

The score would hold as the game headed into overtime. Syracuse pressed furiously to open extra time, firing off a trio of shots on goal, fended off by Collin Partee, who finished with seven stops on the day, as LMU held on to force sudden death overtime.

Just one minute into the decisive frame, Johannes Pieles delvered the golden-goal for the Orange on a feed from Oyvind Alseth as Syracuse took the match, 2-1.
