LOS ANGELES - Looking to build on the most successful season in program history, LMU women's soccer has announced its 20-match 2016 schedule, featuring 10 contests at Sullivan Field and six total opponents who appeared in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
In 2015, the Lions made history with a program-record 15 wins and a third all-time NCAA berth, which included advancement to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Their second-place West Coast Conference finish also tied a program best.
This fall, the Lions will chase that elusive WCC title, while also stacking their schedule with quality opponents. The schedule begins with a lone exhibition match at 2015 NCAA Tournament qualifier Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Aug. 12.
The regular-season then begins on the road with a pair of matches in Norman, Okla. LMU will face Tulsa in a enthrall site match on Aug. 19 followed by a meeting with Oklahoma in Aug. 21.
The Lions then seek to continue defense of their home Sullivan Field with a home opener on Aug. 28 against CSU Bakersfield. LMU went a perfect 10-0 on its home pitch in 2015.
A quick trip to 2015 NCA Tournament qualifier Long Beach State (Sept. 2) follows before a second home match on Sept. 4 vs Ball State. The Lions travel across Los Angeles for a Sept. 9 meeting with USC, then host four straight at home against Saint Francis (PA) (Sept. 11), Texas Tech (Sept. 16), Nebraska-Omaha (Sept. 23) and UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 25).
West Coast Conference action begins on the road at Gonzaga (Sept. 30) and Portland (Oct. 2). The Lions return home to host reigning WCC champ BYU (Oct. 6) and San Diego (Oct. 8). LMU will also host San Francisco 9Oct. 21) and Santa Clara (Oct. 23) while traveling to face Pacific (Oct. 16), Pepperdine (Oct. 30) and Saint Mary's (Nov. 5).
The 49ers and Lady Raiders round out four non-conference opponents who made last fall's field of 64 while the Lions were joined in the 2015 NCAA Tournament field by WCC rivals BYU and Santa Clara.
Season tickets are now on sale for the 2016 LMU men's soccer season! The $40 general admission ticket grants the bearer admission to all 10 Lion home matches, as well as a 2016 commemorative scarf.
