MORAGA, Calif. - LMU softball closed out its three-game West Coast Conference series at Saint Mary's with a 5-2 setback Sunday afternoon.
Senior Meghan von Behren went 2-for-3 with a home run and both RBI for the Lions (30-20, 8-4 WCC). Five other Lions had one hit each as the LMU battery finished with seven hits.
But LMU could not overcome an early Gael surge on the home team's senior day. After von Behren opened the game with a solo home run, Saint Mary's (19-25-1, 6-6 WCC) answered with one run in the first, two in the second and two in the third to take a commanding 5-1 lead.
Rachael Farrington (13-8) lasted just 1.1 innings for the Lions after surrendering six hits and three earned runs. Hannah Bandimere allowed just one hit and two runs (one earned) over the final 4.2 innings, but the damage was done.
LMU has a bye week this weekend, then closes out the regular season on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13, hosting Pacific in a three-game WCC set.
