April 17, 2016 It was a busy weekend of rowing for the LMU men's and women's rowing teams, as the men competed against UCLA at The Guy Lundberg Memorial Cup, and the women traveled to Lake Natoma for the Lake Natoma Invitational.
Competing in Marina del Rey, Calif. on Saturday with no wind and a very slight outgoing tide, the men recorded a victory over UCLA in the Varsity 8 race, turning in a time of 5:58.67 to UCLA's 6:07.46. LMU's Second Varsity 8 raced the Bruins close, but fell four seconds short with a time of 6:28.00.
The women rowed against Brown, Wisconsin, Cal, Gonzaga and Sacramento State at the Lake Natoma Invitational in a trio of Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 races. LMU's best races came in its final competition against Sacramento State, with the Lions turning in a time of 6:41.50 in the Varsity 8. The Second Varsity 8 registered a mark of 6:56.35, while the Varsity 4 crossed the line in 7:51.72.
The LMU men will return to action on April 30 when they travel to the WIRA Championships, while the LMU women will return to action on May 14 at the WCC Championships.
