LAS VEGAS - It will be a full Friday of basketball for the LMU Lions at the 2016 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships. The men will open play with San Diego in the night cap at 6 pm, while the women will look to build on their opening round win with a quarterfinal match with Saint Mary's at 2 pm.

There will be a little something extra to play for at the WCC Championship, and the LMU Sports Network previews why as the 2016 Championships continues with a full day of action.

Both games for the Lions will be live on KXLU 88.9 FM and can be seen on BYUtv or online through TheW.tv.

LIONS AT THE WCC

MEN: LMU vs. San Diego: Like they did this season, the all-time series between LMU and San Diego is dead even at 46-46. The two teams earned victories on their home court, with the Lions earning a 67-63 win on Jan. 23 and then a week later, the Toreros claiming a 77-69 win in San Diego. USD has won all three of the previous match-ups in the WCC tournament, the last coming on Mar. 6, 2009, 62-56, at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. .. The Lions won the first match-up thanks to a 18-5 edge in points off turnovers, forcing USD into 17 while having a season low five themselves. Adom Jacko had 23 points to lead the Lions in the win. In the second meeting, USD outscored the Lions 18-3 in the final seven minutes of the game to earn a come-from-behind victory. The Lions made just two of their last 19 shots and USD, who is ninth in the WCC with just 6.3 three-pointers per game, hit 10-for-20 from long distance. Jacko had 20 points while Marcus Harris erupted for 23 to lead USD... The Lions finished in a tie for 7th in the WCC at 6-12 (13-16 overall) while the Toreros where 10th at 4-14 (9-20 overall).

WOMEN: LMU vs. Saint Mary's: The Lions advance to the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Championships for the second straight year and the third time in four years under Head Coach Charity Elliott. LMU earned an 85-72 win over 10th-seed Portland in the tournament's opening round on Thursday, and will now face second-seed Saint Mary's on Friday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on BYUtv, stream free of charge on theW.tv and can be heard live on KXLU 88.9 FM. The Lions (11-19, 6-12 WCC) will face Saint Mary's (23-6, 14-4 WCC) in the WCC Tournament for the first time since 2008. The Gaels have won all four previous postseason meetings and hold a 46-17 all-time record over the Lions. SMC won the two regular-season games played this season by scores of 72-57 and 91-81. LMU's last win against the Gaels was on Feb. 13, 2014 in Gersten Pavilion.

The men's and women's winners of the 2016 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships will each receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
