The LMU women's rowing team won the Berg Cup for the fourth time in five years on Saturday afternoon, while the men had a successful showing racing in the Parker Cup.

The Lions won two of the three races, including placing first in both the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8. LMU then finished second in the Varsity 4 to capture the cup. UCSB, Orange Coast College, Long Beach State and UC Irvine all fielded boats.

LMU finished well ahead of the competition in the Varsity 8, turning in a time of 6:39.30 to place ahead of UCSB at 6:46.32. It was another convincing win in the Second Varsity 8, as the Lions defeated UCSB with a mark of 6:59.1 to the Gauchos' 7:09.48.

Looking for a clean sweep of the competition, LMU fell just short of winning the Varsity 4, registering a time of 7:48.09 behind OCC's 7:45.02. It was a close race for second, as LMU edged Long Beach State at 7:49.35.

On the men's side, LMU won a Varsity 4 race with a time of 6:27 to finish ahead of a pair of UCI boats, with the nearest rig posting a time of 6:34. The Lions also claimed a victory in the Novice 8, turning in a time of 6:23 to finish ahead of San Diego State at 6:27.

LMU turned in a pair of close second-place finishes in the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8, with the lead eights (6:09) falling to UC Irvine by two seconds (6:07). In the Second Varsity 8, LMU was again edged by the Anteaters, as UCI registered a mark of 6:27 to LMU's 6:29.

The men return to action on March 26 when they compete against USC at 7 a.m. Both the men and women will also compete at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 2-3 in Mission Bay.
