CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Home runs by Stephanie Maciel and Shianne Ybarra and an RBI-single by Stephanie Crist propelled LMU softball to a 5-2 win over Bethune-Cookman Saturday afternoon at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.

The Lions moved to 8-5 on the season with their second straight win while the Wildcats fell to 3-13.

LMU had eight total hits in the game, including three consecutive singles in the top of the third that led to the first run. Amanda Dirks and Ybarra opened the inning with back-to-back singles and Crist's single to center sent Dirks home from second.

Maciel's two-run home run in the fifth made it 3-0 LMU. Meghan von Behren also scored on the play after reaching on a bunt single. Ybarra opened the sixth inning with a solo shot to right field, giving LMU a 4-0 advantage.

A bases-loaded, two-RBI single by Bethune Cookman in the bottom of the sixth cut LMU's lead in half. But pinch runner Caroline Figueroa would score on a Ybarra RBI ground out to second in the top of the seventh, pushing the lead back to three.

Rachael Farrington picked up her first save of the season, working her way out of a jam in the final frame. After giving up a walk and a single to the first two batters, Farrington got her first out on a strikeout. With runners advanced to second and third on a double steal, Farrington dug in, getting a pop up and strike out swinging to end the game.

Hannah Bandimere (4-3) was the winning pitcher of record after striking out three and allowing four hits for two runs in five innings. Andy Wellins also tossed one inning.

The weekend concludes Sunday versus Colorado State at 11:30 a.m. and No. 20 Fresno State at 2 p.m.
