LOS ANGELES â€" LMU women's soccer, coming off the best season in program history, will be adding eight new faces for the 2016 season, Head Coach Michelle Myers announced Wednesday.

Myers, the 2015 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, has been charged with filling the void left by the Lions' nine-member senior class, which was key in the program reaching new heights, capped by an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance.

"The challenge of college athletics is that every year you start over with a new team," said Myers. "This is also the excitement of college athletics. Every fall presents a new puzzle that we can't wait to put together. The 2015 season was remarkable in so many ways and it has left all of us excited about the future of the program. Part of that bright future is our incoming class of 2016. The expectations that our players have set for themselves have risen and we know this class will meet that challenge and continue to push it even higher as their years progress.

"From top to bottom, this 2016 class is the brightest academic class that we have ever signed both in terms of GPA and test scores," Myers continued. "They are all very hard workers both on and off the field. They are leaders and competitors. Several have played multiple sports and are great athletes. Each brings their own unique talents and personalities that we feel will add to our program. Some will fill immediate holes left by our graduating seniors while many will challenge and push our returning players for playing time. Our staff believes this class is a great fit for the competitive culture of our team, as well as, the close-knit team chemistry. We are excited for the fall.

The 2016 class includes eight freshman and one junior transfer, Tatyanna Lewis, who joins the Lions this spring after two seasons at Baylor. The group includes one goalkeeper, two defenders, two combo defender/midfielders, one midfielder, one combo midfielder/forward and one forward.

Coach Myers on Colbert: "Chloe is the type of player every coach wants on their team. She is a competitor, she is a leader, she is an over-achiever and she is a positive energy force. The thing that impresses us most about Chloe is her relentless work ethic on and off the field. Chloe has experience as both a midfielder and forward and we see her being able to help us in both positions. She scores goals from both areas of the field and we anticipate her being a yearly fixture in our goal production during her four years as a Lion."

Coach Myers on Erickson: "We feel very lucky to have seen Lee while recruiting and then again at our LMU ID camp. Her distribution and athleticism will add to the depth of our goalkeeping position, but we are most excited about her ceiling. We believe that Lee has a ton of potential and could end up being a very important player for our program in one of the most important positions on the field. Lee is a multi-sport athlete and we know that experience will help her as she now focuses on one sport in college."

Her decision to become a Lion happened fairly recently because she was still looking for the right fit both academically and athletically. Jackie comes from a family of college athletes and knows what it takes to succeed both on and off the field. Her athletic ability combined with her intellect and work ethic make for a very competitive and driven player. Jackie has a nose for the goal and has led her club team in scoring for multiple years. With her ability to score as well as create opportunities, we may use Jackie as both a forward and a central midfielder."

Coach Myers on Flora: "Annie comes to us from a winning background at both the high school and club levels. She is a versatile player who has led her team in various categories from goals to assists. She plays as a central midfielder for her high school and an outside back for her club team. Annie is a true competitor that sets high standards for herself. She has a high work ethic and has shown resiliency after battling back from a major injury a few years ago. Anytime you can pick up a versatile player who is not only willing but also technically and tactically able to play wherever the team may need her, it is a good find. Annie is also our first player that is a second generation LMU soccer player in her family. We hope this is a trend that continues."

Coach Myers on Kampfl: "Kallie is an attacking-minded outside back who has led her high school team in assists for multiple years as they won CIF and state titles. Her technical ability, athleticism and willingness to get into the attack will fit very nicely into our style of play. Kallie will add much needed depth to our backline but also has the versatility to play anywhere on the flanks. We look forward to having Kallie both create scoring opportunities, as well as, keep the other teams from scoring."

2016 Signee Ali King Ali King, Defender, Maria Carrillo High School

Coach Myers on King: "Ali is a central defender who makes the position look easy. Often times the word we use when describing Ali's play is smooth. She is very composed under pressure, reads the game well, has the ability to cover ground quickly and sticks her tackles cleanly and timely. In terms of technique, she is an excellent passer with both feet which is important to the style of soccer we like to play with emphasis on building out of the back. We are excited to add Ali into an already experienced backline that returns three starters. We believe she is capable of joining the ranks of former Lions, Joslyn Slovek and Callie Taylor, as a WCC Defender of the Year in her time here at LMU."

2016 Signee Tatyanna Lewis Tatyanna Lewis, Defender, San Pasqual High School, Baylor University
Spent her first two collegiate seasons at Baylor… appeared in just one game as a sophomore… as a freshman she saw action in all 20 games for 461 minutes... Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (Fall 2014)... had her first career assist vs. Northwestern State (9/7)… lettered in varsity soccer all four years at San Pasqual HS... was selected to all-league team all four years... voted team's 2013 defensive player of the year... led SPHS to second place finish in Avocado East League in 2012 and 2013… two-year varsity letterwinner for track and field at SPHS... all-league honoree for track in 2012 and 2013... qualified for state meet in 200-meter, 400-meter, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay… received Scholar Athletic award for both track and soccer in 2012 and 2013… she also played with West Coast FC which went to the ECNL Finals in 2011 and 2012... 2011 Far West League champions... 2011 Region IV national championship quarterfinalist... 2012 Surf Cup Champions... participated in the 2010 and 2011 Summer ODP.

Coach Myers on Lewis: "Tatyanna joined our team this spring after transferring from Baylor. In our sport, youth players are making earlier and earlier commitments and it is leading to more and more transfers for various reasons. For us, we have been fortunate to be the recipient of some of these transfers and they have been very important to the recent success of our program. We believe Tatyanna will continue that trend. We recruited Tatyanna while she was in high school. She actually played on the same club team as current goalkeeper Charlee Pruitt. So when we received an email from Tatyanna that she was interested in transferring we were excited. Tatyanna has experience as both an outside back and a central defender. With the graduation of several defenders and the recent injuries to some of our backline, Tatyanna will provide valuable depth to that position. It is nice to add a player that already has college experience and is able to spend the whole spring getting adjusted to our team. Tatyanna will get a lot of minutes playing in our defense this spring. We believe her athleticism and technical ability will be a nice addition."

2016 Signee Phoebe Riley Phoebe Riley, Forward, La Jolla High School
Four-year varsity letterwinner at La Jolla High School… four-time first team All-Western League…four-time "Player to Watch" in San Diego… team's leading scorer all four seasons, averaging 14 goals per season… led La Jolla HS to the CIF runner-up finish in 2012-13… qualified for state and advanced to the second round in 2012-13… also played club soccer for Albion USA… Surf Cup Champions in 2012 and 2015… National Cup Champions in 2012… National Cup semifinalists in 2015… Regional runner-up in 2013… Regional quarterfinalists in 2014… academic honors at LJSH from 2014-16.

Coach Myers on Riley: "Tenacious, aggressive and fast are all words to describe Phoebe. She is one of those players whose off the field personality is nothing like her on the field personality. Off the field, she is a nice, sweet, mild-mannered teammate while on the field she is not afraid to battle, scrap and challenge anyone standing in her way of winning the ball. Phoebe is a flank player with good speed who fits into our style of attacking the wings and being dangerous in behind defenses. We know her tenacity in pressuring defenders will also create turn-overs in our offensive third thus leading to goal scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates."
