SAN FRANCISCO - In a game that mirrored the two teams' first meeting just over a month ago in Los Angeles, LMU women's basketball rallied big late, but could not overcome a slow start in an 81-72 setback at San Francisco Saturday afternoon.

Managing just two first-quarter field goals, the Lions (9-19, 5-12 WCC) found themselves in an early 24-8 hole. They began to find their way in the second quarter, hitting 12-for-19, but the Dons (17-10, 8-8 WCC) did not slow from their hot start and carried a 47-28 lead into the halftime break.

The Lions would win the third quarter, 19-16, and the fourth quarter, 25-18, and pull within seven twice late in the final frame, but could not battle all the way back.

After scoring just five points in the first half, senior Sophie Taylor exploded for 18 second-half points, hitting 10-for-16 for the game. She also added 14 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the year. In her first start of the year, Makenzie Cast added 14 points, while Cheyanne Wallace had 11 points off the bench. Andee Velasco chipped in 10 points and four assists to round out four Lions in double figures.

San Francisco was led by Taylor Proctor's 25 points. The senior forward would hit 13-of-15 from the free-throw line as the Dons went 26-for-33 from the charity stripe as a team. LMU was 10-of-14 from the free-throw line.

The regular-season concludes on Saturday, Feb. 27 as the Lions face off against PCH Cup rival Pepperdine in Malibu. Tip off from Firestone Fieldhouse is set for 1 p.m.
