Johnson Headlines Five All-WCC Selections

Nov. 15, 2016

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Connor Johnson has been named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, while Adrien Perez, Alvaro Madrigal, Jose Ochoa and Garrett Amador also earned All-WCC status, as announced by the conference Tuesday.

A junior transfer from Cerritos College, Johnson made an immediate impact as he started 14 of 15 games played and helped pace the LMU defense to rank fourth in the conference with 20 goals allowed, including just seven in conference play, and a 1.10 goals against average. The Long Beach, California native scored twice on the season, including the game-winner at then-No. 17 UC Santa Barbara. Johnson earns LMU's first Defender of the Year honor since Roger Downes earned the nod in 2010.

Adrien Perez returns to the All-WCC team, capping his career with a spot on the second team after leading LMU with four goals and 10 points on the season. Earning the start in 13 of 18 games, Perez saved his best for last as he netted a pair of goals to go with an assist over the final three games of the season. The senior finished his career ranking third all-time with 55 career points and fourth all-time with 21 goals.

Madrigal was named All-WCC for the third straight season, this time picking up honorable mention status. The junior tallied two goals and assists on the season, while starting 12 of 18 games played, and tied Perez for the team lead with 15 shots on the season.

Ochoa also earned a spot on the honorable mention team after starting in 17 of 18 games and ranked second on the team with 1,458 minutes. Ochoa's lone goal of the season came in LMU's upset over then-No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, and the senior also recorded four assists on the year.

Amador came on strong during the homestretch of the season, snapping a trio of scores over the final six games, and is the only defender on the team to have three goals. The freshman scored his first career goal against Pacific with under a minute remaining and followed the next game by scoring the golden goal in overtime against Portland to earn WCC Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 29.
