Sarah Sponcil connected for 14 kills on 21 swings to post a .571 hitting percentage as LMU (18-9, 9-6 WCC) cruised to a 25-11, 25-20, 25-19 sweep over San Francisco (4-23, 0-14 WCC) on Thursday night from Gersten Pavilion.
Sponcil teamed her 14 kills with four assists, two aces and six digs, while freshman Savannah Slattery also contributed 14 kills to share the match high. Slattery nearly collected a double-double, finishing with nine digs.
While the kill totals weren't as high, LMU's Nicky Kevorken and Erin Williams also proved efficient, as Kevorken hit .600 over five swings and Williams finished with five kills on seven attacks (.571). LMU's impressive clip was created off the hand of Jessie Prichard who completed the match with 35 assists.
LMU, which finished with five total team blocks, limited San Francisco to just .029 hitting in the sweep. Kate Ashman led the way for the Dons with five kills.
The Lions hit .520 en route to running away with the first set, as Slattery led the way with six of her 14 kills. Jamie Lea, who collected nine kills on the night, had four in the second set, but it was five kills on as many swings from Sponcil that highlighted the frame. The second set proved to be the tightest of the night, as LMU and USF played to 14 tie scores, but a late rush from the Lions put the period away. LMU once again impressed in the third, hitting .355 behind six kills from Sponcil to claim the sweep.
LMU will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Santa Clara at Noon.
