LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount women's soccer hosted the nation's number five team on Thursday night at Sullivan Field. In front of an energetic crowd and live television audience, the Lions (7-3-3, 2-1-0) could not overcome an early goal and saw their home-unbeaten streak come to an end after 16 consecutive favorable results. BYU's (11-1-1, 2-0-1) 1-0 victory was it's eighth shutout of the season.

"We tried not to make a big deal out of this game, but there may have been some nerves at the beginning," said Head Coach Michelle Myers. "BYU is so quick and they interchange so well. We just talked about it all at halftime, and I think the second half we got a little bit more confidence under our belt."

The Cougars jumped ahead early, capitalizing on a 9th minute goal from Michele Vasconcelos and assisted by Nadia Gomes. Despite the early deficit, the Lions showed their ability to hang with the conference's top offensive and defensive team.

Although BYU outshot the Lions 16-10 in the game, LMU had chances of their own off set pieces. In addition to the free kicks, LMU took four corner kicks.

Charlee Pruitt kept the Cougars off the board after the opening goal found the back of the net. The sophomore goalkeeper totaled nine saves on the night.

"I was very happy with our second half," said Myers. "Putting them under as much pressure as we did, and getting some good set pieces and opportunities in front of goal, was a good response. We hope we bring that energy on Saturday night."

Loyola Marymount will have a quick turnaround as it hosts University of San Diego on Saturday night. The Lions will look to return to form at home as they try to grab three West Coast Conference points.
