Looking to snap a three-match losing streak, LMU volleyball (15-9, 6-6 WCC) served up nine aces against Saint Mary's (10-13, 5-7 WCC) en route to capturing a 25-19, 25-10, 25-18 victory over the Gaels from Gersten Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
Kekai Whitford and Savannah Slattery, who notched four and three aces, respectively, bolstered LMU's serving success. Sarah Sponcil added two of her own, teaming that mark with six kills and a match-best 12 digs. The nine aces are the second-best mark for the Lions this year.
Jessie Prichard set the Lion attack to a .259 clip, teaming four kills with 22 assists and eight digs. Defensively, LMU limited the Gaels to just -.040 hitting, with the only positive hitting percentage coming in the first (.154). Sascha Dominique had her hand in both sides of the match, as she connected for nine kills on 18 swings while also registering three block assists.
Dominique's best set came in the first, as she opened the match with seven kills on 11 attacks. LMU also registered four aces in the first, including three from Slattery.
After running away with the second set behind four kills apiece from Slattery and Sponcil, LMU utilized four aces and four blocks in the third stanza to ensure the sweep.
LMU will return to action next week when it travels to Gonzaga and Portland for a pair of conference matches.
