Oct. 17, 2016 SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Following a two-goal weekend, freshman Garrett Amador has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.
Amador scored in each of LMU's contests against Pacific and Saint Mary's this weekend, guiding LMU to a 1-1 record. The Anaheim, California native delivered the game-tying goal with 41 seconds left in regulation on Friday night against Pacific to notch his first goal as a Lion, sending the game into overtime before LMU fell, 2-1.
Once again, Amador provided the heroics on Sunday against Saint Mary's in his first career start, heading in the golden goal just 5:49 into overtime, sending the Lions past the Gaels, 2-1, to earn their first conference win of the season.
The freshman is now tied for the team-lead with two goals, and is the only defender on the team to have scored twice on the year.
Amador and the Lions will have a week of rest before starting a three-game road trip, starting at Portland on Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. contest.
