SALT LAKE CITY - The LMU women's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to seven straight matches with a 2-2 double overtime draw at Utah Sunday afternoon.
Shannon Kent and Morgan Hilby scored for the Lions and Sophia Leksan made a career-high 12 saves in goal as the Lions moved to 6-2-1 on the year. Utah is now 3-3-3 overall.
Collecting a total of 15 shots in the first half alone, the Utes found the back of the net first, taking a 1-0 advantage on a Natalie Vukic unassisted goal eight minutes into play.
Five minutes later, Kent responded for the Lions with an unassisted goal of her own, knotting the score at 1-1.
The Lions would strike first in the second half, going ahead 2-1 in the 57th minute. Gabby Sanfilippo set up the goal, sending a cleared ball back into the mix. The re-entry ball brought Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke off her line and Hilby beat her to it, heading it over Luke and into the net.
Utah would go on to add a second goal in the 81st minute as Vukic sent a crossing ball in for Hailey Skolmoski who headed it home.
The score would stay deadlocked, 2-2, through the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Leksan's 12 saves came on 30 total Ute shot attempts. The Lions finished with 15 shots of their own, forcing five Luke saves.
LMU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 25 at Cal State Fullerton. The Lions return to Sullivan Field on Friday, Oct. 2, opening West Coast Conference play against Saint Mary's.
