ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Alvaro Madrigal scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, but the LMU men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Missouri State to wrap up play at the TLC Plumbing & Heating Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico Sunday.
Madrigal and junior defender Mark Dotseth were named to the All-Tournament Team for LMU.
Missouri State (2-2-2) struck first in the match as Harry Lewis sent a cross into the area just outside the six. Jake Buckle met the crossing ball and redirected it into the net at the 21:36 mark.
One minute later, Madrigal knotted the score at 1-1 with his fourth goal of the season. Collecting a pass from Jose Ochoa, the sophomore midfielder launched a 23-yard shot into the top right corner of the net.
The teams went into the break tied, but it would be the Bearcats who would snap the even score as Buckle tallied his second goal of the match just 2:30 into the second half.
LMU managed just three shots in the second half, finishing with 12 to Missouri State's 13. Vince Paldino took the loss in his first match in goal this season. The senior also made three saves.
The Lions were without the services of junior midfielder Adrien Perez for both matches over the weekend due to injury.
LMU returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 24, traveling to UC Irvine for a 7 p.m. kick off. The Lions will be back on Sullivan Field on Sunday, Sept. 27 to host Cal Poly at 4 p.m. In conjunction with LMU's annual Alumni BBQ, all BBQ ticket holders will gain free admission to the Lions' match.
