ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - No. 17/18 ranked LMU men's soccer suffered a 1-0 setback to No. 21 American Friday afternoon in the first match of the TLC Plumbing and Heating Invitational hosted by New Mexico.
The scoreless outing for the Lions (5-2-0) was the first of the season as they had scored nine times through six previous outings. The Eagles improved to 6-1-0 overall.
It would be an early goal by American, just inside six minute, that stood as the deciding factor for the remainder of the match. Joel Hart, shoveled a pass to Dale Ludwig near the top of the box. Ludwig dribbled into the area and sent a shot into the lower far post netting.
American finished the first half with an 11-5 shot advantage over LMU as Paul Blanchette made all four of his saves in the opening frame.
A John Bovill shot early in the second half forced American's Dylan Hobert to make his lone save of the match. The Lions finished with 11 total shots to American's 15.
LMU is back in action Sunday at 12 p.m. Mountain (11 a.m. Pacific), taking on Missouri State to close out Invitational play.
