LOS ANGELES - Enjoying the friendly confines of its home Sullivan Field for the fifth consecutive match, the LMU women's soccer team also enjoyed a fifth consecutive victory, a 1-0 shutout of UC Riverside Sunday afternoon.
The victory was also the third straight 1-0 win for the Lions, who move to 5-2-0 overall. The Highlanders fell to 4-4-0 on the year.
Ally Andreini was the goal scorer for the Lions Sunday, netting her first goal in an LMU kit. The senior transfer snapped a scoreless draw in the the 74th minute, heading home a short cross from Melissa Lewis. Morgan Hilby was also credited with an assist on the goal, tipping the ball out to Lewis following a scramble in the box.
The Lions dominated possession and offensive changes throughout the match, finishing with a 16-4 shot advantage.
In goal, Sophia Leksan posted her second straight shutout and her fourth win of the year. The junior made one save on the day.
LMU hits the road fro its final three non-conference matches, traveling to Weber State (Sept. 18), Utah (Sept. 20) and Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 25). West Coast Conference play begins Oct. 2 versus Saint Mary's.
