Playing its second match of the LBSU/LMU Mizuno Invitational, the LMU women's volleyball team (4-3) recorded a sweep over visiting Central Arkansas (2-6) by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 28-26 on Friday night from Gersten Pavilion.

Sophomore Sarah Sponcil once again collected a double-double, finishing with 11 kills and 12 digs. Jamie Lea added six kills in the victory, while seniors Rachelle Suaava and Amber Mirabello tacked on five apiece. The Lions hit .210 as a team receiving sets from senior Hannah Tedrow, as the native of Foothill Ranch, Calif. managed a match-best 32 assists to accompany two aces, a block solo and two block assists.

The Lions held Central Arkansas to a .105 hitting percentage over the course of the match, with Fulani Petties leading the way with seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Heather Schnars collected eight kills on 27 swings while also registering three aces.

After LMU posted a 25-21 victory in the first set while holding the Sugar Bears to a .062 hitting percentage, Sponcil erupted in the second to hand LMU the 2-0 match score lead. Sponcil registered six of her 11 kills on 11 swings with just three errors. The native of Phoenix, Ariz. also collected six digs in that set as LMU led virtually the entire way to a 25-20 victory.

The Lions led early in the third set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead, but the Sugar Bears put up a fight, eventually drawing even at 13-13 on a Sponcil attack error. While LMU earned its first match-point chance at 24-23 on a Kellen Dunn service error, Central Arkansas continued to play tough, running the tally even to 26-26 on a block from Petties and Kristine Hjembo. The Lions once again reached match point on the ensuing play as Sponcil connected for her final kill before Dunn erred on an attack to hand the Lions the sweep.

LMU will now play host to Oakland at 10 a.m. tomorrow before finishing up tournament play at 7 pm tomorrow night against Stony Brook.
