Penn State Invitational Tournament Central
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The LMU women's soccer team dropped its opening match of the 2015 season as a pair of second-half goals by No. 24 Rutgers resulted in a 2-0 Scarlet Knight victory in the opener of the 12th Annual Penn State Invitational.
The two sides battled to a scoreless draw through the first half of play with Rutgers holding a 3-1 shot advantage. Rutgers would finally break through in the 63rd minute with a set piece off of a corner kick. Jennifer Andresen sent the free kick into the box where Adora Moneme headed it into the back of the net.
Three minutes later, the Scarlet Knights doubled their advantage as Rachel Cole converted a penalty kick.
The Lions finished with seven shots, including two each from Shannon Kent and Sarah Sanger. Four total LMU shots were on frame, forcing four saves by RU keeper Casey Murphy. Sophia Leksan made two save for the Lions.
LMU returns to action Sunday, Aug. 23, facing tournament host Penn State at 12 p.m. (9 a.m. PT).
