Penn State Invitational Tournament Central

LOS ANGELES - LMU women's soccer opens the 2015 season by making the longest trip of the year, traveling to State College, Pa., to take part in the 12th Annual Penn State Invitational. The Lions open play on Friday, Aug. 21 versus Rutgers at 5 p.m. EST (2 p.m. PST) and wrap up the weekend facing the host Nittany Lions on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 12 p.m. EST (9 a.m. PST).

The Lions have one exhibition match under their belts, earning a 1-0 shutout of UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 15. Senior Shannon Kent scored the game-winner in the 23rd minute off an assist from classmate Callie Taylor.

LION NOTES
• Senior midfielder Jocelyn Blankenship was named to the 2015 All-WCC Preseason Team.
• LMU was picked seventh in the West Coast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Lions went 9-8-2 overall and 2-6-1 in WCC play last season with a young squad that featured just three seniors.
• Seniors Morgan Hilby (5g, 6a), Shannon Kent (6g) and Jocelyn Blankenship (6a) return to the pitch after leading LMU in points, goals and assists last fall. • Ten total starters return and 15 total letterwinners while the Lions also welcome nine newcomers and four redshirts.

SERIES HISTORY VS RUTGERS
This marks the third all-time meeting between LMU and Rutgers. The Lions and Scarlet Knights last met on Sullivan Field in 2011, a 2-1 double-overtime setback for LMU. The first ever meeting between the two programs was a 1-0 Lion victory in 2004.

ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers returns eight starters and 23 letterwinners, including the entire back line and goalkeeper from a squad that posted 11 shutouts and a 0.64 goals against average in 2014. The familiar faces and talent on the roster earned the program a No. 24 national ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Poll, and a No. 22 spot in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25. Rutgers went 13-6-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the Big Ten, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament field for the fifth time in seven years.

Penn State went 20-4-0 overall and 12-1-0 in Big Ten play in 2014, winning the league's regular-season title. The Nittany Lions went on to advance to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals before falling 2-1 to Texas A&M.
