SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Lions' 2014 leading goal scorer Shannon Kent picked up right where she left off last fall, netting the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 LMU women's soccer exhibition win at UC Santa Barbara Saturday night.
The match marked LMU's lone exhibition contest before officially opening the 2015 season on Friday, Aug. 21 against Rutgers in a tournament at Penn State.
Twenty total Lions made an appearance on the pitch, including eight newcomers. Senior transfer Ally Andreini and freshman Sarina Bolden earned spots in the starting 11, combining for five shots, three on goal. In all, LMU earned a 9-6 shot advantage over the Gauchos.
Kent, who led LMU with six goals last fall, scored the game-winner in the 23rd minute. Collecting a lobbed cross from Callie Taylor, Kent dribbled the ball into the right side of the box and sent a slotted shot past UCSB's Beth Ritter.
Three LMU keepers split time in goal with redshirt freshman Charlee Pruitt making three saves.
