LOS ANGELES - The LMU women's soccer team finished its 2015 spring season with an undefeated record of 5-0-3, highlighted by a 3-2 win over perennial national power and 2013 National Champion, UCLA.
The Lions opened the spring with a 1-1 draw vs UC Santa Barbara and a 1-0 win versus Long Beach State. Junior Shannon Kent and freshman Sarah Sanger both scored and junior Morgan Hilby notched both assists on the day.
The following weekend, LMU earned a 2-1 win over CSUN and a 0-0 draw against NAIA power Concordia. Hilby and Kent were the goal scorers while Sanger and junior Jocelyn Blankenship assisted.
LMU's spring season marched forward with a resounding 5-0 win against UC Riverside. Blankenship, Hilby, Kent, and freshman Maddie Medved (two goals) all found the back of the net while freshmen Hannah Harrah and Charlee Pruitt combined for the shutout in goal.
The following weekend saw the Lions take on 2014 NCAA Tournament participant Northern Arizona. The Lions and Lumberjacks played to a 2-2 draw. The game featured goals from Sanger and Kent while Hilby was once again the provider on both goals.
The Lions concluded their spring schedule on April 26 with a pair of games. The first was a home contest against Cal State L.A., and resulted in a 3-2 LMU victory. Goals came from freshman transfer Melissa Lewis along with Kent and sophomore Sydney Zuccolotto.
The Lions saved their best performance for last, traveling to Westwood to play UCLA in the afternoon game. After going down 2-0 the Lions would battle back to make it 2-1 at the half with a goal from Blankenship off a Madison Heilmann assist. Just one minute into the second half LMU would tie the game up when Kent tapped in a Sanger cross. The Lions would complete the comeback after a Hilby cross found the head of Blankenship and she snapped a header past the UCLA goalkeeper. Harrah and Sophia Leksan secured the win in goal for the Lions.
