STOCKTON, Calif. - Four early runs helped the LMU softball team to fend off a late Pacific rally as the Lions took the final of a three-game West Coast Conference series, 4-2, against the Tigers Sunday in Stockton.
Meghan von Berhen got the Lions (22-26, 4-5 WCC) started early with a solo home run in the top of the first. The junior outfielder was instrumental in the second inning as well, reaching on an RBI-fielder's choice that allowed Courtney Moore to score. Stephanie Maciel scored the inning's second run on a wild pitch and von Behren went on to score on a Stephanie Crist RBI-single to make it 4-0 LMU.
Pacific (13-33, 2-7 WCC) rallied to score one run in the fifth and one in the sixth, but would get no closer.
Rachael Farrington improved to 17-13 on the season with the complete-game win. She did not record a strikeout, but scattered six hits for just two runs, lowering her season ERA to 2.85.
von Behren led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Five other Lions had one hit each.
