LOS ANGELES - Errors were costly for the LMU softball team Saturday as the Lions dropped a pair of West Coast Conference games, 3-2 and 2-1, to the Pacific Tigers.
The Lions drop to 21-26 on the year and 3-5 in WCC play while the Tigers improve to 13-32 overall and 2-6 in league action.
A Stephanie Crist solo home run in the fourth and Stephanie Maciel RBI-single in the fifth put the Lions on top 2-0 midway through game one.
But Pacific would rally for three runs in the bottom of the fifth, including two unearned after Toni Santos reached on a fielding error by catcher Courtney Moore. The Lions would not get a runner past second in the final two frames.
Rachael Farrington (16-13) took the loss for the Lions after fanning three and scattering six hits for three runs (one earned).
The Lions gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning of game two as leadoff batter Sara Anderson scored in a Nicole Zapotoczny single. Anderson, who walked to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt and would have been stranded on the base path without the free base.
LMU evened the score in the sixth on Crist's bases-loaded walk. But they could not find the go-ahead run as Caitlin Harman struck out looking in the next at bat and Hannah Montalban hit into a double play to end the inning.
Molly Bourne provided the walk-off hit for Pacific in the bottom of the seventh, knocking a bases-loaded RBI single into centerfield to send Melanie Habib across home plate.
Crist (4-10) took the loss for the Lions after striking out three, walking three and scattering five hits for two runs (one earned). Maciel had two hits to lead LMU at the plate.
The Lions and Tigers wrap up their three-game WCC series on Sunday with a single game beginning at noon.
