LOS ANGELES -With the game tied at 2-2, the 17th-ranked LMU women's water polo team scored four straight goals to push them to an 8-6 win over California Baptist in Golden Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Riverside, Calif.
Mackenzie Beck scored three goals and the Lions held the Lancers without a goal in the fourth quarter to improve to 18-10 overall and 3-1 in GCC play. CBU falls to 17-12 overall and 0-3 in the GCC.
"We have been really working the team hard the last couple of weeks to get us ready for the GCC championships, so we are pretty tired physically," said Head Coach Kyle Witt. "We really pushed through our fatigue and found a way to win."
The Lancers Courtney Menard scored with one second left in the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2. From there, the Lions got goals from Bridgette Alvarez, Laura Lopez, and back-to-back strikes from Beck to go up 6-2.
California Baptist would get no closer than the final margin.
The Lions will wrap-up the regular season with a trip to Santa Clara on April 17 and then over to Pacific on April 18.
