March 8, 2015 The LMU women's rowing team hosted San Diego State at Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey on Sunday, with the second varsity eight posting a victory over the Aztecs. LMU's varsity eight and varsity four rowed neck-and-neck with San Diego State, but both boats were edged in first 2,000 race of the season.
Prior to the races with San Diego State, LMU was joined by Father Paul Vu, who christened three new boats for the program.
The second varsity eight turned in a time of 7:03.7, well ahead of SDSU at 7:12.4. The varsity eight race was extremely competitive, as San Diego State (6:58.6) crossed the finish just one second ahead of LMU (6:59.6). It was a similar story in the varsity four race, as LMU hung tough only to fall by two seconds, 8:04.2 to 8:06.2.
The Lions will return to action on March 14 when it hosts UCLA at 7 a.m.
