Complete Results from San Diego Crew Classic
The LMU men's and women's rowing teams competed at the annual San Diego Crew Classic this weekend, with the women posting a victory in the Collegiate Varsity Petite Final and the men winning the Collegiate Varsity Third Final.
After rowing a 7:01.77 in Heat B, the women's Collegiate Varsity 8 won the Petite Final that featured Duquesne University, University of Portland, Old Dominion, Southern Methodist and San Diego State.
Following the competition, LMU head coach Dr. Vaclav Kacir said, "The racing reflected all the hard work the team is putting in, and it was very exciting to watch the LMU women progress from race to race."
A fourth-place finish in Heat A of the men's Collegiate Varsity 8 (6:45.12) qualified the Lions for the Third Final on Saturday afternoon where the men defeated boats from Sonoma State, California Maritime Academy, Puget Sound, Lewis & Clark, and Illinois.
The women also competed in the 2V8 and Varsity 4. After placing fourth in Heat C of the 2V8 with a time of 7:32.82, LMU improved the time to 7:20.93 on Sunday in the Petite Final to finish fourth behind Sacramento State, British Columbia and Tennessee.
"It was great to see the 2V women hold their ground through stiff competition," assistant coach Jen Koester said. "This weekend was a good learning experience for us, and I'm looking forward to what is to come."
LMU's Varsity 4 also qualified for Sunday's Petite Final, placing second in that race behind Tennessee (8:08.16) with a time of 8:10.43.
The Lions will return to action on April 11-12 when it travels to the Lake Natoma Invitational.
