LOS ANGELES - The LMU softball team closed out a seven-game home stand with a 7-2 win over Seattle Monday morning at Smith Field. The Lions went 5-2 over the stretch including 3-2 during games played as part of the LMU Muscle Milk Invitational.
The game against the Redhawks (10-22) was the final non-conference contest for the Lions, who will enter West Coast Conference play on April 2 with a 18-21 overall record.
Stephanie Maciel and Amanda Dirks hit back-to-back solo home runs in the first inning and Meghan von Behren added a two-run shot in the second to bounce the Lions back from a 2-0 hole.
For Maciel, it was her team-leading eighth of the season, which is also double her career total entering the season. For von Behren, it was her third in the last four games.
Seattle threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with two outs. But LMU pitcher Rachael Farrington got Saenz to foul out for the final out of the inning.
LMU added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-single by Dirks and a two-RBI single by Stephanie Crist.
It marked Farrington's fifth win of the home stand and her 13th of the season. She fanned five, walked one and scatter six hits for two runs in seven complete innings.
