VANCOUVER, BC - LMU men's soccer alum Craig Nitti has been added to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC inaugural Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) roster for the 2015 United Soccer League (USL) season, the club announced Tuesday.
The 6-5 defender, who wrapped up his career in a Lion kit in the fall of 2014, was drafted by the Whitecaps as the 72nd overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft in January, becoming the seventh all-time Lion men's soccer player to be drafted by a Major League Soccer club.
"We're very pleased to add three MLS SuperDraft picks to our USL roster," said WFC2 head coach Alan Koch in a release posted on the Whitecaps FC official website. "Spencer (Richey) is a smart, driven goalkeeper, Craig is a tough central defender, and Mackenzie (Pridham) is a natural goalscorer. We look forward to seeing each of them continue to progress."
A 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DI Men's Soccer All-Far West Region Second Team selection, 2014 First Team All-West Coast Conference pick and MAC Hermann Trophy watch list honoree, Nitti anchored the LMU back line to nine shutouts and a 0.68 GAA in 2014 - both LMU single-season records. He also supplied key offense, finishing with five goals and one assist for 11 points.
For his career, the Calabasas, Calif., native made 59 starts, appeared in 70 total matches and logged 5,720 minutes. He finished with 11 goals, including four game-winners, and four assists for 26 points.
The 2015 WFC2 season begins March 29.
