SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has announced the brackets and game times for the 2015 WCC Basketball Championships at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The tournament will begin with a women's opening round match-up at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 5 when LMU takes on Wells Fargo PCH Cup rival Pepperdine. The men will open the 2015 tournament with the final game of the opening round on Friday, March 6 when they take on Santa Clara at 8 pm.
The tournament will continue through the men's championship game on Tuesday, March 10. All 18 games will be televised live nationwide, and all 18 will be streamed on-line. All of the LMU games will be live on KXLU 88.9 FM with Jesse Kass calling all the action for both the men and women.
The men will play Santa Clara in the WCC Tournament for the ninth time since the tournament began in 1987. The Lions hold a 5-3 edge in the series, winning the last meeting in the 2013 quarterfinals, 60-58.
The Lions won the first four meetings against the Broncos when in the WCC tournament, the first two coming in the title games in 1988 and 1989. The ninth match-up against Santa Clara is the most among any other team.
Santa Clara took both games of the regular season, surviving a buzzer-beater attempt by the Lions on Jan. 22 in Santa Clara, 65-62, and then just over a week ago on Feb. 21 in Gersten Pavilion, 70-63.
The women open WCC Tournament play against Pepperdine, marking the fifth time the teams have met in the postseason. The Waves hold a 3-1 edge in WCC Tournament meetings, including a 56-45 final in the second round in 2012.
LMU's lone victory was a 64-61 final in the 2007 semifinals. This marks the third straight season that the Lions have opened WCC Tournament play against the same opponent they concluded the regular season against (San Francisco in 2013 and 2014).
They split the Wells Fargo PCH Cup with the Waves, falling 98-91 in overtime in Malibu on Dec. 29, before evening the season series just last Saturday in the final game of the regular season, 74-57.
